Honda has announced Apple’s Siri will soon be available on the 2013 Honda Accord. The new release will come as a dealer-installed option that current or future Honda Accord owners with Bluetooth can add. Honda reengineered the Accord’s software to work with Siri and the onboard microphone and speakers. The iPhone must be iOS 6 or higher to be compatible.
“The iPhone has become so integral to people’s lives that they continue to use them in their vehicles,” said Vicki Poponi, VP of automobile product planning. As a result safety can become an issue. With Siri Eyes Free many safety measures can be provided for passengers without taking away the connectivity of the iPhone. Siri Eyes Free allows drivers to use their iPhone while keeping both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. In addition to the obvious hands-free functionality, Siri Eyes Free minimizes distractions by preventing the screen to light up.
